Edwin Victor 'Vic' Friend Sr. Edwin Victor 'Vic' Friend Sr., 73 of Scottsdale lost a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease on January 30, 2007. He was born on July 16, 1933 to Sarah and the late Edwin H. Friend in Atlanta, Georgia. He is survived by his mother Sarah and his wife Phyllis. He also leaves behind three sons, Vic Jr., Mitch, Tyler and two daughters Debbie Downey and Liz Hampton as well as two brothers Ed and Carl. He was also grandfather to six granddaughters, Brittany, Gina, Danielle, Ashley, Kristina and Heidi. He attended Georgia Military Academy and then graduated from Georgia Tech in 1955 with honors. He began his flying career with the U.S Air Force as a fighter pilot in a "Peace Keeping Operation" while serving in France with the F-86 Fighter Squadron. He also flew in the Arizona Air National Guard. He received numerous awards and citations for his outstanding service in the Military and later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1963 he began his Commercial Airline career starting with Bonanza Airlines, and was very involved with ''ALPA'' and was awarded numerous Citations for his development of the colored terrain for pilot approach charts, depicting Mountain elevations. He retired as a Captain with Northwest Airlines after 33 years of flying during which time he served several years in the Pentagon as an Air Force Reservist. He was a kind and loving father, and a family man, who enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and motorcycle riding. He was an avid and competitive tennis player and a gifted photographer who enjoyed watching sunsets. He loved traveling and spending time with his family and friends. His great sense of humor, charisma and his love for life will not be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by all. We will treasure our memories of him and hold them in our hearts forever. A celebration of his life will be held at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church, Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel located at 25150 North Pima Road, Scottsdale (NW corner of Pima and Happy Valley Rd). In lieu of flowers the family requests any charitable donations be made to the Muhammad Ali Parkinson's Center in care of Mr. E. V. Friend at 500 West Thomas Rd, Ste #720, Phoenix, AZ 85013.
