Calvin Walker Blackledge, 78 of
Tempe, AZ passed away on May 30, 2007. Known as "Blackie", he was born
November 16, 1928 to Glen and Florence Blackledge in Morenci, Arizona.
Graduated from the University of Arizona. Served in the Army as a
paratrooper, followed by service in the Air Force and the Arizona Air
National Guard as a fighter pilot flying F-104 Starfighters. Following
his service with the Air Guard in Ramstein, Germany, he went to work as
a pilot for Bonanza Airlines, later retiring from Northwest Airlines.
Blackie's love of raising horses had him riding with the Verde
Vaqueros, Ranchero Vistadores and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Mounted
Posse. He is survived by his only daughter, Calon Blackledge;
granddaughters Tara and Becca Hagman, brother Bill Blackledge and his
wife Joyce of Tempe; nephew Larry Blackledge; nieces Cinda Saridakes
and Valerie Silvia and a number of great nieces and nephews. He will be
long remembered as a loving, devoted father and grandfather, and for
his wonderful sense of humor. Memorial Services will be held at Adair
Funeral Homes, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Avenue, at 1:00 pm on
Friday, June 15, 2007. In lieu of flowers donations in Blackie's memory
may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation 2420 N. Pantano Rd. Tucson,
AZ 85715.
